Maja Kovačević

PhD, MD, Specialist in Dermatology and Venereology

Dr. Maja Kovačević graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2012. After completing her studies, she completed her medical internship at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb and passed the professional medical examination in 2013. In 2015, she began her specialization in dermatology and venereology at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases, University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice. After completing her specialization, she passed the specialist examination in 2020 and continued working as a specialist in dermatology and venereology at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases, University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice, as well as at Poliklinika Duduković Kisić Malić.


In March 2024, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine entitled “The Association of Serum Concentrations of Interleukins IL-18, IL-19, IL-21, and IL-22 with the Etiopathogenesis and Assessment of Clinical Activity of the Non-Segmental Form of Vitiligo”, thereby obtaining the title of Doctor of Science (PhD).


In her professional work, she shows particular interest in pigmentary disorders, scalp diseases, medical cosmetology, as well as dermatoscopy and dermatologic surgery. As an invited lecturer, she actively participates in international scientific conferences in Tel Aviv, Cannes, Dubai, Bangalore, and Kyoto, and has attended professional training in trichoscopy in Warsaw and melanocyte transplantation in Chandigarh, India.


Before and during her specialization, she has been engaged in scientific research. She is the author and co-author of thirty-one papers published in indexed journals and of book chapters in the field of dermatology and venereology published by Croatian and international publishers.


She is a member of the Croatian Dermatology and Venereology Society, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the International Society of Dermatology (ISD), the International Dermoscopy Society (IDS), the European Hair Research Society (EHRS), and serves as the Secretary of the Croatian Vitiligo Patients’ Association.
